Singles Develop New Attitudes but the People around Them Remain the Same

“We become a part of what surrounds us.” - Unknown
One of the biggest obstacles that I hear from Singles, who have made a commitment to enhance their perspective and achieve greater success, is that they are prepared to change but they are in constant contact with people who sap their energy and undermine their attempts towards positive growth. I call these people spirit suckers. Everything about them is negative. Their expression and posture depicts misery and/or contempt for the world and you are the lucky recipient each and every time you interact with them. Know any spirit suckers? I’m sure you do.
On the other hand there are positive people who are tremendous assets to a healthy state of mind. These are the people who are optimistic, energetic and supportive. You rarely hear them complaining and they tend to view things from a positive perspective. Difficulties are seen as opportunities. I call these individuals spirit stimulators. No matter how positive you are, their company further enhances, energizes and inspires you. How many spirit stimulators are in your immediate circle? - Probably a few.
If you are serious about a new attitude that will support greater success, it may be a good time to evaluate your network. Unfortunately, the people around you are not obligated to change because you do. Take a look at your daily interactions and notice the impact that they have on your well-being. Do they suck or stimulate your energy levels? I recall doing this reflection exercise at various stages (and ages) in my life. Each time I recognized the toxic contacts interfering with my positive mindset and made changes accordingly. Of course some were easier than others to address (i.e. acquaintances vs. family members) but I took action on the aspects that I could control even if I could not eliminate the source altogether. My challenge for Singles today, is to recognize the negative contacts that impact your positive attitude. Don’t be afraid to stand away from the negativity.
